TRIUMPH DAYTONA 675 RANGE REVIEW

JUN
The Triumph Daytona 675 R is one of the best middleweight performance motorcycles in the world in terms of budget, performance, and specifications. The current iteration of the Triumph Daytona 675 R was released in 2013 and it featured the first major update to the popular 675. The 675R is designed to be more track-friendly than the standard model.

Engine

The motorbike comes with a 675 cc, liquid-cooled 12 valve, DOHC, three-cylinder, short-stroke engine that is capable of producing a maximum power of 126 BHP at 12,500 rpm and a peak torque of 74Nm at 11,900 rpm.. The engine revs harder than the regular model and it also features a sequential electronic fuel injection system with twin injectors. The central air intake is larger than that of the standard 675. The short-stroke design has been crafted to maximize power, and the stainless steel exhaust system distributes weight seamlessly and aids agility and steering.

Chassis

The suspension, frame, weight balance, steering, and braking are crafted to near perfection with the Triumph Daytona 675 R. The all-aluminium frame is comprised of eight distinct high-pressure die castings that are designed to decrease weight, increase tensile strength, and decrease the number of welds. The aluminium swingarm looks like a solid boomerang and it is built on top of an adjustable pivot. Both the wheels are five-spoke wheels with cast aluminium allow. The front suspension comes with Ohlins 43mm NIX30 forks that are upside down, and the rear suspension comes with Ohlins TTX36 twin tube monoshock. Both the fork ends of the 675R come with adjustable preload, rebound damping, and compression. The brake components are Brembo and the front wheel has four-pot callipers with 310mm dual disc pads. The rear pad has a single-pot calliper attached to the single 220 mm disc. The bikes comes with switchable ABS which we found to be quite handy in torrid weather.

Design

Although the motorbike is designed to be a faired bike, the front panels are quick to taper off, providing the rider with the feeling of a naked bike. This is well and good as the original 675 was intended to be a completely naked bike. The Triumph Daytona 675 R has excellent curves and there are several small details that make it more visually appealing than the standard model. The bike features short-stroke handlebars that are designed to give the rider an extra-aggressive riding position, making it ideal for the track. It is not exactly a comfort bike, and if comfort if your primarily goal, we advise looking elsewhere. The seat padding and the foot pegs are quite mediocre but the design of the bike is still quite outstanding.

Price

In the United Kingdom, the bike retails at around £11,000, and overall the bike is worth its price. It has excellent value for money and is noticeable better than the standard model. Its chief competition is the Suzuki GSX-R 600 which is cheaper than the 675R. However, the Daytona has several advantages in terms of displacement and the fact that the Suzuki model lacks ABS. It is a perfectly good investment as long as you are not expecting to buy the most comfortable bike in the world.
