When it comes to adventure motorcycles, the Bavarian manufacturers have always been producing some of the best machines money can buy. One machine which was a leader in the adventure market was the BMW R1250GS.

As the Germans had to make it better than it already was, updating this powerful motorbike was no easy task. Despite the challenge, BMW released the new R1250GS, for 2019. Will this motorcycle give the Bavarians the edge to lead the adventure market?

<heading>BMW R1250GS Specifications</heading>
From a styling perspective, you will find it hard to differentiate between the old and new model with a single glance. After closer inspection, it becomes clear that the Germans made small styling updates, to give this machine a modern look. Even though it comes with the trademark mismatched headlamps, they now use LED.

You will find telelever monoshock in the front suspension, which comes with semi-active, multimode adjustments. In the rear, there is the paralever monoshock, with semi-active, multi-mode, and auto preload adjustments. Regardless of your off-roading skills, you will find this motorcycle’s suspension is always doing an excellent job of soaking up the bumps and shocks.

The front brakes have two discs, with four-pot callipers, while the ones on the rear is a single disc, with two-pot callipers. Both the front and rear brakes have cornering ABS, along with Dynamic Brake Control. Thanks to this new system, you won’t have any problems when you slam the brakes, as they cut off the throttle. The Hill Hold Control System has also gotten an upgrade, where it comes online automatically when the road slopes more than 5°.

Despite being slightly heavier than the previous model, there is no way you will notice the difference when you are on the road. You will have a lot of confidence steering this machine, as its handling is phenomenal. Regardless of the condition of the road, you will find it quite stable.

When it comes to comfort, this motorcycle will surprise you every second. Due to the heated grips and seat, you can ride in all types of weather conditions, without any compromise in comfort. There is plenty of room for your legs and the seat feels incredible, giving you great comfort throughout the journey.

The new TFT screen on this motorcycle displays a variety of information, which you can scroll through, using button pushes and clicks. There are a lot of rider aids, which give you the confidence to go for long rides.

<heading>BMW R1250GS Performance</heading>
Powering this remarkable bike is the horizontal flat twin, DOHC, 8v, 1254 cc engine. It produces 134 hp of power at 7,750 rpm and 106 ft-lb of torque at 6,250 rpm. The bike won’t have any problems going over 130 mph, thanks the power of the engine. Along with the massive 20-litre fuel tank, you should be able to cover at least 150 miles at a stretch.

<heading>Verdict</heading>
It looks like BMW have taken great care and effort to improve the R1250GS in all aspects. If you are looking for one of the best all-rounder off-roading machine, you should pick up the BMW R1250GS. You can order it from a nearby dealership for a base price of £13,415!

The BMW K1600GT has had numerous changes to improve the sports tourer and bring it up-to-date with the other motorbikes in its category. As the earlier version of the BMW K1600GT was already a solid sports tourer, the bar is high for the newer edition. Does the BMW K1600GT have what it takes to surpass the expectations set by its older brother? Let’s take a look and see what the sports tourer has to offer!

<heading>Specifications</heading>

The first change you will observe on the new BMW K1600GT is the air vents, which are significantly larger than the ones on the previous model. You can pull out the air vents manually so that it can collect greater quantities of air. The updates to the body of the sports tourer has given it a contemporary look.

The sports tourer comes with the German manufacturer’s Dynamic ESA, a semi-active system. The motorbike adjusts the damping of the suspension automatically, thanks to the Dynamic ESA. In addition, you can modify the dampness settings from Dynamic to Road so that the motorbike is comfortable, regardless of the roads condition.

Even though the motorbike has a wet weight of 319kg, it is quite easy to handle while going around a corner. Even when you are cornering at high speeds, the motorbike is stable. Along with the Dynamic SEA suspension, you will always feel in control of the motorbike.

Bringing the motorbike to a complete halt even at high speeds is a breeze, thanks to the four-piston calipers in the front and twin-piston calipers in the rear. Coupled with the ABS, hard-braking on this powerful motorbike won’t be a problem.

The dashboard on the BMW K1600GT is a mix of analogue and digital. The speed and rev counter are analogue, while everything else is digital. It also comes with a separate display for SatNav, so that it is easier to pay attention to where you are going. Both the grips and seats on the motorbike can be heated.

It also comes with Intelligent Emergency Call, which is a system that contacts the authorities in the event of an accident. And it comes with an SOS button, which helps you report other accidents. The Intelligent Emergency Call and SOS ensure that help will be on its way if there is an accident.

<heading>Performance</heading>

The BMW K1600GT comes with a six-cylinder, 24-valve, DOHC, liquid-cooled, 1649cc engine that produces 160 hp of power at 7,750 rpm and torque of 129 lb-ft at 6,500 rpm. It also comes with Shift Assistant Pro, which is handy when going up or down a gear. With a 26.5-litre fuel tank, you can cover large distances on the motorbike without breaking a sweat.

<heading>Verdict</heading>

As the German manufacturer made the right changes, the BMW K1600GT is one of the best sports tourers on the market. The new Dynamic SEA suspension is a welcome addition, as it makes the ride luxurious and comfortable. You can get the basic model of the K1600GT for £17,205.

The BMW K1600B LE is a product of BMW collaborating with Roland Sands, a Californian customiser of fame, to create this bike. It is one of those rare machines that originally came with a unique wood veneer panelling. The bike is a ludicrous one, but of an excellent build.

<heading>Built from a superbike</heading>

The BMW K1600B LE utilizes a 164bhp, 1649cc inline six motor derived from the familiar K1600 GT. The frame is an identical one, with Duolever front end and Paralever swingarm. The tourer’s specification is kept intact in the steering geometry, braking and the wheelbase. The same can be said for engine management and traction control systems. The fuel tank at 26.5 litres also follows the same template.

The main differences of the BMW K1600B LE with a complete tourer is the lowered rear end. This is due to a complete different subframe. The seat height is a low 780mm. The panniers are styled-in and the megaphone silencers can only be described as huge. The handlebars are raked back and flat. The stubby screen can be adjusted as per the preferences of the rider. A few GT options are available, like fairing towers that come with extra storage space. The rider can also opt for a taller screen.

The BMW K1600B LE comes with reverse gear. The starter motor drives it. Winds are deflected by the redesigned upper fairing. The swing out flaps will also be much bigger. The BMW K1600B LE  also enjoys the identical optional extras which come with touring bikes: an autoblipper, quick shifter and keyless ignition. The sat nav is totally integrated. Other standard features include stereo, crash bars, fog lights and central locking for panniers among many others. The list, as goes with a BMW, is a long one, and costs quite a lot of money. The rider can push in as many things as the person wants to.

<heading>Base model competence</heading>

The base model of the BMW K1600B LE  has almost everything of note. You can get optional footboards, LED fogs, quicker shifter and crash bars by parting with a little more cash. It does not mean that you are wasting precious money. When you spend you get an unmatched riding experience which cannot be obtained anywhere else. This is as no other company manufactures inline six cylinder bikes. No other manufacturer’s product generates 160bhp. The six cylinder motor is much more than simply inline four and two. There is a perfect balance between primary and secondary, meaning no shafts in balance and no tingling in high frequencies. There will be no blurred mirrors either.

The BMW K1600B LE cruises through rapid gear succession, the heavy K1600 transmission smoothed by autoblipper and quick shifter. In sixth gear, there is a vast speed range. The bike will crawl at 20mph and then accelerate to 130mph and go beyond. The 80mph comes at 3750rpm, just above tickover.  The chassis of the BMW K1600B LE is exemplary. The bike’s blend of power and weight can be easily managed by the rider with easy competence.

The BMW HP4 Race is mind numbingly fast. It is also extremely thrilling to ride. Many will say that this should be expected from an above £68,000 bike which are to be manufactured in a restricted run of only 750 units. It helps that the engine is of superbike-specification. The motorbike is also a light one, weighing only 171.4 kilograms with a fully fuelled up tank. This is achieved by a carbon-fibre frame. The wheels are created from cycle parts imported from racing bikes.

<heading>Advanced technology</heading>

The BMW HP4 Race is a machine produced from years of research. The BMW crafted motorcycle’s wheels and frame are produced completely by machines. They are the result of a Resin Transfer Moulding, a new and accelerated automated process. The process takes about two hours and each unit is an identical copy of another. The carbon has more strength than metals and corrosion resistant as well. The HP4 Race is now a standard for carbon fibre chassis equipped bike performance.

The peak power output of the BMW HP4 Race is 212 bhp coming at 13,900rpm. This is a lot, with only five horsepower less on World Superbike motor. This specification will allow the bike to easily do a single season of 15 weekends. Each weekend comprises of 180 miles. The motorcycle has 15 traction control levels. It has engine breaking and five brakes for wheelie control. All brakes are programmable for every gear in six speed box.

The motorcycle can be adjusted at will. The carbon fibre frame includes inserts which permit the fine tuning of trail and rake figures and the swing arm pivot position. The linkage ratios and shock length can be adjusted as well. There are also the vast range of settings for Ohlins manufactured FGR300 forks and the rarely found TTX36 GP rear-shock. The height of the seat can be adjusted via three positions through unbolting of carbon rear subframe. The rear sets enjoy eight positions.

A rider has to simply push blue on left bar to select engine braking or traction control. The green button must be pushed for up and the red for down.  When it comes to the right, the red is the kill-switch. The starter is black and for the pit-lane limiter. The rider will press blue to toggle across four engine presets: Dry1, Dry2,Wet and Intermediate. The bike is extremely fast even on the intermediate for the first session. It is also precise. The engine pulls sharply from the low revs and gathers torque through the midrange.

<heading>Riding Ease</heading>

All these can be frightening to a rider who simply wants to ride a bike. However, that’s where the beauty of the bike comes in. It is delightfully straightforward to just get on the bike and ride it. The rider’s view over carbon encased aluminium tank leads to a big digital dash. A milled yoke at the top has a numbered plaque showing the bike’s number of the 750 bikes BMW will produce. There are clip-ons with the racer like coloured buttons.

At the moment, Scramblers are huge in the motorbike scene, and everywhere you look, bike manufacturers are pumping them out left, right and centre; so the release of the BMW R Nine T Scrambler was no surprise to us. The Scrambler is not just a fashion bike, although it looks awesome, there’s more to it than that, with fewer extra gadgets and electronics than the GS, and a much lighter weight of 485 lbs, it gives great ride quality.

Although the front 19inch wheel is just a fashionable add-on, it's surprising to find it doesn’t detract from the bike’s handling at all. By giving it the same tyre size as the GS, it makes the BMW R Nine T Scrambler much more roadworthy and has a better feel. Comfort isn’t central on this bike. For example, the seat, while practical and fit for purpose will give you a sore backside after a considerable time on the road. But then again, I’d say the looks and what’s under the hood, are a small sacrifice to make!

Speaking of under the hood, the BMW R Nine T Scrambler has all of the characteristics you can find in a Roadster. As well as the same 108.6bhp and 85.6lbft of torque; in a 1170cc air-cooled engine. You can feel the difference made by BMW, opting for the air-cooled engine over the more civilised water-cooled option through the attack of vibration and noise that only adds to the Scramblers character.

Some will say that BMW is using the term "scrambler" loosely on this bike, as it definitely doesn’t have the impressive off-road ability of a traditional scrambler. (To be honest, they have the GS for that)! The Scrambler gives a more of a Mad Max, off-the-beaten-track feel, being a robust, agile upright bike with a lot of the cosmetic changes that are pretty much skin-deep. A new seat cuts costs while still looking cool using synthetic worn-in brown leather with a retro-style fine spoke wheel design. Changes to the frame include a steepened steering head angle to compensate for a larger front wheel, with the added suspension of 5mm at the front and 20mm at the back. Finally, the ergonomics have been changed ever so slightly, with pegs pushed back and down and a taller seat with higher placed handlebars. I cannot help but talk about a couple of the finishing touches - as they make the Scrambler look cool and tidy, there is no rev counter or gear indicator, which might be a downside for some, but it keeps such a simplistic and clean design that I love.

You can really feel the difference with these changes made to the ergonomics and structure that provides a different feeling when you take the Scrambler out on the road. It has the ride-ability of the original R nine T, with just the right amount of vibration to add to its character and enough torque for you to climb speeds easy! The narrow, large wheel doesn’t hinder steering at all, but gives a more of a flick-able feel than the original R nine T had.

I can see why some people may have issues with the BMW R Nine T Scrambler, as it’s not the most practical bike and could probably be a lot more comfortable. Not to mention the doubts that it actually earned its Scrambler name. It might let a few people down. Overall, it looks cool, gets you from A to B with power and style, and hits the market in September, costing £11250.
